While universal access to education must become a sacred imperative, an aspirational norm, the educational experience should never be mass produced, ne’er commoditized like the infamous widget. Human minds are delicate flowers, to be uniquely nurtured; slowly molded in accordance with their own ambitions, commensurate with creative proclivity and philosophical affinity. When the mind and soul are holistically uplifted then the mastery of knowledge and the outflow of enlightened action shall commence. Neglected souls can produce none other than depraved minds, in spite of their bombardment with the accoutrements of the learned.

A person cannot truly lay claim to being learned until he or she is willing to lay waste to the little white lies of their youth; to discard borrowed intellectual blocks molded from the bias of their forebears and crafted into a foundation of convenient reality which squares with a worldview authored with little regard for verity. To be intellectually free is to first dispense with our formative untruths, to confront the pain of ideological violence waged upon our infant psyches by those who loved us, inflicted all for the sake of encouraging the quiet assurance of generational sameness. Unlearning is the first step to be had in a series of arduous, inconvenient events which are necessary to unearthing enlightenment.

Our weakest links becomes us; we must dare to save the wretched, the downtrodden and the vulnerable as futile as those efforts may prove. The very act of dispensing outward bound kindness feeds our spirit and births richness into our lives more than hoarding ever could.

Silence isn’t synonymous with ignorance nor incapacity. Articulation is indeed a coded talent, timing and moderation thereof are the greater virtues. Silence speaks qualitative volumes greater than unrestrained banter, however fruitful it may prove; for spoken words told too often are soon forgotten, discarded as attention begging while quiet deliberation buys the continuous amassing of anticipation, such that when words finally straddle emerging thought worthy listeners are likely found.

The mouth can only author one-half of a heart-spawned smile; the eyes must conjure the rest.  Crow’s feet are the ink of the equilibrious soul, invisible until innocent joy overflows.

With no detraction to the good, with no prejudice to the beneficent, the world doles its rewards upon the players, the actors, not the observers; those willing to declare their presence in the arena of bold ideation, those willing to slave away in the marketplace of uncertainty and those willing to risk shaming on the public steps of failure. With great sacrifice comes great gain, not for the purpose of creating preferential categories of human endeavor, but simply to ensure that those post-conventional decisions which move humanity forward and onward are not forgotten, not lost in the shuffle fixated on the availing of pitiful assurances to which allegiances are sworn without regard for the dissonance bred with every iota of faux engagement.  Be in the game, no matter the odds; much honor lies in a loss dealt on the heels of of great effort, more so than a de facto win garnered in the face of little opposition.

Creativity is the most loyal of friends; ideas will always interrupt the isolation when the solitude becomes too much, stealing you away into a world of fantasy, a place where the minor distractions of actual discontent and boredom dare not exist.

What grand irony that we spend our formative years —the infancy of our becoming— bathing our souls in the libations of imagination with the irreverent wanting of childish, unspoiled intellectual wanderlust, only to sober up with maturity and trade-in lucid fantasy for the hard calloused predictability and mind-numbing melancholy of other-scripted normality.

Generosity plants seeds of joy within and without; those seeds become giant trees and eventually heap their shade upon us, as umbrellas against the scorching heat of despair in our most troubling times.  While giving may seem to stretch our coffers of sustenance, the suffering it alleviates repatriates abundance into our lives through the currency of grace.  Grace is the only gain worth pursuing as it knows not the pitfalls of inflation, nor the fickle popularity of material goods.
Meet everything with love and good faith.  Hate, mistrust and paranoia only create and compound problems, sometimes making appreciable messes out of negligible misunderstandings or missteps.

The moon fell
And broke into a million sun-drenched pieces
The dreams fell with it
Vision weavers left in shambles, without the lamp to light their patterned pathways
How many tomorrows will be forgotten
The production line drawn to a screeching halt
Scripted reality is a thing of the past
Days will collide, seamlessly
Memories will need forego the watermarks of old
No telling the near present from the past
Distinct experiences coalesced into macrocosmic blurs
All because the forgotten orb descended into darkness
Who said second place was the first loser
Even the death of understudies can ruin the stage play
But what will become of the shadow boxers now?

Sometimes the most horrendous outcome, the far-flung hypothetical which steals our moments of peace through preemptive fret, turns out to be our saving grace, delivering us the foresight, motivation and will to move beyond the alleged good into the arms of the great.

Political creatures are gluttons for all things sensational; they must be restrained from impulsive actions by popular demand for deliberated reasoning in the wake of emotional upheavals doled by tragedy.  The will of the people must not be hijacked by the fury of cognitive tunnel-vision which often emanates in the aftermath of collective pain, especially when the hurt-switch resides in the hands of overly-ambitious media hell-bent on feeding an insatiable, endlessly incendiary news cycle.  There is something to be said for decisions rendered outside the imminent temporal nexus of tragedy; while political capital might be lost by way of spoilage of momentum birthed on the laurels of seething emotional distress, the emerging construct of consensus will be rife with legitimacy befitting of appreciable volitional compliance and the inspiring of true evangelists for the movement, even among unlikely political segments.

I’m from the US, was raised in Saint Lucia in the West Indies and now live in the US again.

There is a certain morbidity of potential which manifests in being adjudged incompetent by gazes beyond our own critical eyes; a certain finality of fledgling confidence which drives us to bury our recalcitrant talents deep within ourselves under the presumption that ‘tis better to be thought a coward, a do-nothing, than to offer even a semblance of confirmation that our ambitions are less than guaranteed success upon their activation; perverted procrastination serves to firewall us from the prospect of failure, as until dreams have been tried, subjected to the death-panel of chance, no loss has been incurred and the crisis of confidence which follows is averted yet again.
